Late 2008 saw a massive downturn in the UK, and world economies. We know that this is not abnormal – it is a part of the business cycle that has been rolling for the last 200 years or so. Governments like to think that they have the insight and policies to ‘put an end to boom and bust’ – but they clearly don’t. Poppleton & Appleby, business recovery experts and long standing Autus clients, were predicting a catastrophe based on the over availability of cheap credit, for two years before it happened. Many people saw the problem, but people with the influence to prevent such a catastrophe did not act.
Since late 2009, at Autus we have experienced a significant improvement in the expectations of our clients, and of prospective clients. In early 2009, there was more of a siege mentality – baton down the hatches and weather the storm. So if an expense could be cut – it was cut, simple as that. In the second half of 2009 we saw a different attitude prevail. Companies were starting to believe that they would now come through the recession- they could see light at the end of the tunnel.
This new belief generated a widely applied approach to website development by clients. The rationale goes like this:
Autus is benefitting from this fresh approach. Most of our clients are working with us to review the current conditions in their market and setting out the website strategy to start of the new decade. May new clients are also talking to us about optimising or totally re-developing their websites.
