We encourage our clients to add to and refresh the content of their websites. This ensures that visitors to the website can expect to see new material when they visit the site - increasing the probability that they will revisit. Content Management - Problems

More clients now wish to manage the content of their websites and until now the solution was far from satisfactory. There are several client update or content management packages available, most of them open source software packages, which designers can integrate into a client's website. From the client perspective there are usually two major problems with these packages:-

1. They are not easy to use.

   The client is confronted with a detailed manual (developed by the designer at the client's cost) giving all the instructions for building and updating web pages. In our experience, the client is usually lost at this stage, as they struggle to devote the time required to learn how to become a 'web page editor'.

   • The result - they revert to having updates done by the website designer.
   • The consequence - the client is frustrated that they have outlaid on a content management system that they cannot use and they still do not have the control of website content that they require.

2. The introduction of such software to the website will often interfere with the search engine optimisation, by affecting the page tags and other tags used by the designer to convey to the search engine the prime keywords used for SEO. See Search Engine Optimisation for details.

   Where this is not a problem, it will often be because the designer is one of many who still do not use the tagging of the website to talk to the search engines!
